INILAH mobil yang menjanjikan kemampuan untuk menjelajahi jalanan off road sekaligus pantai berpasir.
Sebuah ide di balik versi mobil konsep dune buggy Volkswagen Beetle yang diumumkan Senin di Detroit Auto Show.
Janji perusahaan otomotif ini memasuki abad ke-21 dari Baja Bug, yang merupakan modifikasi Beetle untuk menjelajahi kondisi off-road yang sulit, seperti padang pasir Baja, California.
VW memperkirakan Beetle Dune menarik bagi pemain ski di Aspen, Colorado, atau sandboarders di Florence, Oregon.
Secara resmi, VW mengatakan belum ada keputusan untuk memproduksinya secara massal. Namun daya tarik merek Beetle memberikan mobil konsep ini peluang lebih baik untuk tampil di ruang pamer, seperti dilansir Mail Online.
'Dune, untuk saat ini, adalah sebuah konsep," kata Michael Horn, Presiden dan Chief Executive Volkswagen Group setelah pengumuman tersebut.
"Apabila banyak yang menyukainya, kami akan menyiapkan mobil konsep ini dan melakukan kampanye pemasaran yang sangat spesifik untuk itu."
Rencana promosi tersebut bertujuan untuk menjangkau pasar muda, dengan tampilan kreatif di ajang pameran, dalam gaya bohemian flash mob, selama pembukaan pameran.
The Dune didasarkan pada kinerja Beetle R-Line, namun VW memberikan tampilan yang khusus, yang membedakannya dari versi lain dari mobil klasik Jerman.
Dune didukung kemampuan mesin 210 tenaga kuda, 2-Liter turbocharged empat silinder seperti yang disematkan pada Beetle R-Line.
Tidak disebutkah harga atau tanggal produksi untuk Dune. Sementara VW R-Line dipasarkan mulai dari harga US$24.795 (sekitar Rp297 jutaan) termasuk biaya pengiriman.

VW envisions the Beetle Dune appealing to skiers in Aspen, Colorado, or sandboarders in Florence, Oregon.
Officially, VW says no decision has been made on whether to produce the thing. But the appeal of the Beetle brand gives the concept a better chance of appearing in showrooms.
'Dune, for the time being, is a concept,' said Michael Horn, Volkswagen Group of America president and chief executive after the unveiling.
'If people like it, we work on the concept and we create a very specific marketing campaign for it'.
Such a promotional plan aims to reach young, creative types like those who took over the stage, bohemian flash mob style, during its unveiling.
The Dune is based on a high-performance Beetle R-Line, but VW has given it a special look that sets it apart from other versions of the German classic.
The Dune gets the same 210-horsepower, 2-Liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the Beetle R-Line.
No price or date for production was announced for the Dune. The current R-Line starts at $24,795 excluding shipping.
