Indonesian Farmers Develop Vegetable Export Opportunities Abroad

BANYAK CARA dilakukan bagian hubungan masyarakat (Humas) di instansi pemerintah dalam menyampaikan capaian kinerja sekaligus mengungkap kendala yang dihadapi, seperti ditempuh oleh Badan Penyuluhan dan Pengembangan SDM Pertanian (BPPSDMP) di Kementerian Pertanian RI melalui Press Tour 2018 selama tiga hari di Bandung, Jawa Barat.
Sejumlah wartawan yang mengikuti kunjungan pers pun mendapati fakta baru tentang kemampuan petani hortikultura di Jawa Barat mengekspor sayuran. Volume ekspornya tidak tanggung-tanggung empat ton per bulan. Tujuan ekspor utama adalah Singapura dan Jepang, yang membutuhkan aneka sayuran seperti selada air, jahe gajah, petai, buncis dan kacang Kenya.
Press Tour dipimpin langsung oleh Sekretaris BPPSDMP Andriko Noto Susanto ke Bandung Vegetable Station (Bavas) yang dikembangkan oleh Balai Besar Pelatihan Pertanian - BBPP Lembang didukung Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) dari Taiwan.
"Peningkatan kompetensi SDM pertanian dalam mewujudkan entrepreneur yang berdaya saing menjadi tema utama dari Press Tour 2018," kata Kepala Bagian Evaluasi dan Pelaporan (Evalap) Titin Gartini kepada sejumlah jurnalis yang mengikuti kegiatan kunjungan pers di Bavas, Kamis (12/7).
Kepala BBPP Lembang, Bandel Hartopo menambahkan bahwa Bavas adalah korporasi petani yang dibentuk oleh lembaga yang dipimpinnya didukung TTM dari Taiwan. Targetnya, sebagai sarana untuk mengaplikasikan ilmu yang diperoleh peserta pelatihan dengan metode Onsite Training Model (OTM) pada saat pelatihan dari hulu sampai hilir.
Dari metode OTM maka Direktur Bavas, Dodih menyatakan bahwa alur kerja yang ditempuh adalah pola tanam untuk produksi, pengemasan di packing house dan kegiatan ekspor.
Kegiatan ekspor sejumlah sayuran tersebut menurut Dodih lantaran potensi ekspor dari jenis sayuran dengan volume permintaan tinggi, harga stabil tanpa terpengaruh fluktuasi harga di pasar domestik.
"Bavas untuk tahap awal lebih cocok untuk membidik pasar ekspor, yang kondisinya merupakan kebalikan dari pasar domestik," kata Dodih.
Kendati diminati Jepang, dia mengakui, bahwa pasar ekspor ke Singapura tidak rewel menuntut produk organik, karena Bavas masih memanfaatkan pupuk dan pestisida kimia. Namun kedua belah pihak, eksportir dan importir sepakat pada ambang residu dari pestisida yang digunakan untuk budidaya.
"Importir ketat mengawasi batas dosis pupuk dan pestisida yang digunakan Bavas," katanya lagi.

A number of journalists who joined the 2018 Press Tour found a new fact about West Java horticultural farmers exporting vegetables. Its export volume is four tons per month. The main export markets are Singapore and Japan, such as watercress, elephant ginger, petai, beans and Kenya nuts.
The 2018 Press Tour activities were led by the Secretary of BPPSDMP Andriko Noto Susanto to Bandung Vegetable Station or Bavas was developed by Lembang´s Agriculture Training Center or BBPP Lembang and Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) of Taiwan.
"The competence of Indonesian agricultural human resources to be a competitive entrepreneur is the main theme of 2018 Press Tour," the BPPSDMP´s spokesman, Titin Gartini told the press here on Thusday (July 12).
Director of BBPP Lembang, Bandel Hartopo said the Bavas is an outcome-based training model, which applies the Onsite Training Model method or the OTM in cooperation with TTM for support the farmer empowerment program for the last three years.
From the OTM method, the Director of Bavas, Dodih stated that the workflow taken is the cropping pattern for production, packaging in packing house and export activities.
The export activities of some vegetables according to Dodih due to the export potential of vegetables with high demand volume, stable prices without affected by fluctuations in domestic market prices.
"The Bavas for initial phase is more appropriate to target the export market, which is the opposite condition of the domestic market," said Dodih who was use one name like many Indonesians.
Despite Japan´s interest, he acknowledges that the export market to Singapore is not fussy demanding organic products, although Bavas utilizes chemical fertilizers and pesticides. But both parties, exporters and importers agree on the residual threshold of pesticides used for cultivation.
"Importers are strictly observing the limit of fertilizer and pesticide doses used by Bavas," he said.
