Belo Horizonte (B2B) - Julio Cesar menjadi pahlawan kemenangan Brasil setelah sukses memblok dua tendangan pemain Chile untuk membawa Brasil memenangi laga 16 Besar di Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte, Brasil, lewat adu penalti setelah kedudukan tetap seri 1-1 sampai 120 menit pertandingan.

Sampai 2x15 menit babak perpanjangan waktu usai, laga Brasil melawan Chile di Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte, Brasil, tetap seri 1-1 sehingga harus dilanjutkan ke adu penalti, seperti dilansir Yahoo Sports.

Kedua tim masing-masing menciptakan satu gol pada babak pertama. Brasil unggul lebih dulu pada menit 18 lewat David Luiz dari sebuah set piece lewat tendangan pojok Neymar.

David Luiz yang ditempel Gonzalo Jara berusaha menyantap bola hasil sundulan Thiago Silva yang menyambut sepak pojok Neymar pada menit 18 babak pertama laga sesama Amerika Selatan ini. Pada babak kedua, kendati kedua tim saling menyerang dan menciptakan peluang, tidak ada gol yang tercipta, sedangkan kiriman bola ke dalam gawang Chile dari Hulk dianulir karena penyerang Brasil ini dinyatakan menyentuh bola dengan tangan sebelum menendang bola.

Pada dua kali 15 menit babak perpanjangan waktu, kedua tim tidak berhasil menciptakan gol, namun pemain pengganti Mauricio Pinnilla nyaris menciptakan gol ketika  tendangannya hasil kerjasama apiknya dengan Alexis Sanchez membentur tiang gawang. Hingga 2x15 selesai, kedudukan tetap 1-1, sehingga dilanjut ke adu penalti.

Chile's Gonzalo Jara's shot hit the post and bounced away to allow the hosts win the shootout 3-2 after Neymar gave Brazil the lead. The match was forced into penalties after finishing 1-1 following extra time.

The record five-time champion hasn't been knocked out in the round of 16 since 1990. Brazil will play a quarterfinal against the team to come out of this afternoon's game between Colombia and Uruguay in Rio De Janeiro.

The hosts took the lead in Belo Horizonte when David Luiz escaped defender Gonzalo Jara during a corner kick in the 18th minute and scored his first international goal. Alexis Sanchez tied the match after a teammate intercepted a backpass from Hulk and moved it quickly to the forward, who poked it past Julio Cesar in the 32nd minute.

Ten minutes into the second half it appeared that Hulk had made amends as he took controlled a long pass in front of goal and knocked the ball past Claudio Bravo in the Chile goal. English referee Howard Webb ruled the striker used his arm to bring down the ball, disallowed the goal and gave Hulk a yellow card.

In the 65th minute -- as Hulk and others still protested about the disallowed goal -- Sanchez nearly created another goal, cutting a ball back for Charles Aranguiz, whose shot was pushed wide in a reaction save from Cesar.

In the final 10 minutes, Brazil had several chances, with Neymar headed straight at Bravo. Hulk slammed a ball that the goalkeeper was able to push away and defenders cleared the rebound.

Chile had chances too, with a last-minute corner going through Cesar's penalty area. Shoult the teams still be tied at the end of extra time, the match will go to penalties.

In the opening stages of extra time, Jo was given a yellow card after planting his raised foot into Bravo's chest while chasing a ball. Hulk remained active, hitting a shot that Bravo couldn't hold but the ball was cleared.
