DANIEL Day-Lewis tampaknya berpeluang meraih Oscar setelah dinominasikan untuk Academy Award atas perannya di film Lincoln.
Kemenangan itu akan membuat hat-trick sebagai aktor kelahiran Inggris yang meraih Oscar, setelah kesuksesan melalui film My Left Foot pada 1989 dan There Will Be Blood pada 2007.
Namun sang aktor akan menghadapi pesaing kuat, Denzel Washington di film Flight, Hugh Jackman untuk Les Miserables, Bradley Cooper pada Silver Linings Playbook dan Joaquin Phoenix di film Master.
Persaingan di kalangan aktris, Naomi Watts hadir melalui The Impossible - satu-satunya aktris kelahiran Inggris dalam kategori ini - Jessica Chastain melalui Zero Dark Thirty, Jennifer Lawrence untuk Silver Lining PlayBook, Emmanuelle Riva di Amour dan Quvenzhané Wallis untuk Beasts of the Southern Wild.

James Bond movie Skyfall took five nominations including Adele for best song but it failed to make the Best Picture cut.
It was hoped that Skyfall, which has taken over $1billion globally, would be the 007 picture to break the curse and be among the best film nominees.
But it wasn’t to be. Instead Skyfall took technical citations including cinematography, editing, mixing and best score.
This year's nominations come earlier than usual in Hollywood's long awards season.
