Jakarta (B2B) - In order to overcome the shortage of meat and pressed beef the price hikes, the government through the Ministry of Agriculture will prepare a meat import quotas by 80 thousand tons in 2013. However, this policy was incidental, which will be implemented in urgent circumstances, when the supply of meat in the country is inadequate.

"Imports will not be done in the near future. To import should be decided with the economy minister and other ministries coordinator. Principle, we will optimize the domestic meat stock. Enough if there is no reason to import," said Agriculture Minister Suswono while visiting the Cattle Market in Muntilan, Magelang regency, Central Java, on Wednesday (7/3).

Related to the high price of beef, according to Suswono, it will continue to be evaluated. Because, during a visit to Sleman, beef stock no problem.

Minister of Agriculture estimates that more cattle ranchers benefit from this situation because cattle prices in the market increases.

"This is what we expected. However if beef prices later rose up out of control, then we act," he said.

According to him, the ideal price of beef in Indonesia between Rp 75 thousand to Rp 80 thousand per kilogram. In Muntilan Market, the price of a quality meat reaches Rp85 thousand per kilogram.
