Jakarta (B2B) - Kementerian Pertanian menyatakan akan segera mendata ulang, jumlah sapi potong yang dilansir Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) pekan lalu. Data tersebut menyatakan hanya sebesar 17,5% sapi yang menjadi komoditas perdagangan.
Menteri Pertanian Suswono mengaku optimistis bahwa kebutuhan sapi dapat dipasok dari sapi domestik. Kementan selama ini mengacu pada perhitungan dari akademisi, yaitu Institut Pertanian Bogor. Kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa peternakan domestik dapat menopang sebesar 80% hingga 85% kebutuhan sapi nasional.
"Akan kami dalami, apakah itu masuk dalam kajian termasuk potensi sebagai potensi menyuplai atau memang ada faktor budaya," ujar Suswono.
Sebagaimana diberitakan, Kepala BPS, Suryamin mengatakan, sapi potong yang dimiliki masyarakat tidak bisa seluruhnya disimpulkan sebagai sapi siap jual.
Jumlah keseluruhan sapi potong menurut data BPS mencapai 14.824.373 ekor. Namun, sapi-sapi ini sebagian besar dimiliki oleh masyarakat sebanyak 14.523.164 ekor. Pedagang dan pengusaha hanya memiliki sekitar 2.942.220 ekor sapi.
"Sebagian besar sapi dipelihara dan dirawat di rumah tangga. Sebagian besar masyarakat menggunakan sapi sebagai tabungan," kata Suryamin.
