SALAH satu unsur terpenting di balik sukses Red Devils selama ini adalah stabilitas.
Setelah memberi kesempatan lebih dari 26 tahun kepada manajer sebelumnya Sir Alex Ferguson untuk membangun kembali klub yang dengan pasti diubah Sir Alex menjadi klub langganan juara dan mewariskan banyak pencapaian, Dewan Direksi Manchester United akhirnya menghadiahi kontrak enam tahun kepada David Moyes.
Kendati masih kalah dari kontrak berumur delapan tahun yang diberikan Newcastle kepada Alan Pardew setelah dia membawa tim ini finish di urutan lima, kontrak Moyes adalah kontrak yang kokoh di era modern.
Tetapi itu juga menunjukkan betapa stabilitas dan keberlanjutan dianggap penting oleh institusi Manchester United.
Tak ada jeda pasca era-Ferguson. United langsung memilih Moyes, dan mereka juga mengikatnya dalam jangka waktu yang lama.
Chelsea
Ini amat berbeda dari tim-tim lain seperti Chelsea yang hanya mengontrak Rafael Benitez sebagai pelatih sementara sampai akhir musim ini menyusul dipecatnya Roberto Di Matteo November tahun lalu.
Benitez adalah bos Chelsea kesepuluh selama sepuluh tahun terakhir klub itu dimiliki milyuner Rusia Roman Abramovich.
Para bos United layak berbagi sukses menakjubkan dari Ferguson yang diciptakan pria Skotlandia ini setelah terlebih dahulu melewati periode-periode sulit, terutama di awal kepelatihannya.
Dia memerlukan waktu tiga setengah tahun untuk menggondol tropi pertamanya, Piala FA pada 1990, dan tiga tahun kemudian untuk mempersembahkan juara liga.
Klubnya finish di urutan 11 sebanyak dua kali dan sekali di urutan 13 pada empat musim pertama Ferguson di United. Satu dekade lalu selama tiga tahun United tak mendapatkan gelar juara karena disalip Arsenal, lalu Chelsea.
Priode tiga tahun tanpa gelar juara Liga Premier itu seakan tak ada artinya jika dibandingkan pencapaian keseluruhan Ferguson di United.
Sejak masuk Liga Premier, periode 2004-2006 itu adalah satu-satunya masa manakala United tanpa gelar selama lebih dari satu tahun. Mereka menempati peringkat kedua dalam tiga tahun itu.
Berulangkali selama periode itu Ferguson dihapus dan diragukan para pengamat, sebelum kemudian membuktikan pernyataan para pengamat itu salah.
Klub Manchester United sendiri tidak ingin mengubah pendekatannya. Dan visi ini berbeda dari umumnya klub-klub lain.
Ambil contoh Blackburn, yang memecat Sam Allardyce pada Desember 2010 ketika klub itu bertengger di peringkat 13. Pemecatan ini disebut Ferguson "benar-benar konyol".
Blackburn memang selamat pada musim itu namun terdegradasi setahun kemudian. Sejak itu para pemilik Blackburn telah memecat lebih dari tiga manajer dan hampir saja terdegradasi dari liga kelas tiga, Liga Satu, dalam musim ini.
Serie A Italia
Situasi di daratan Eropa, khususnya Italia, malah lebih drastis lagi.
Presiden Palermo, Maurizio Zamparini telah gonta-ganti pelatih sebanyak empat kali dalam satu musim ini saja, karena timnya sedang berjuang dari jurang degradasi.
Selama 26 tahun menjadi presiden klub, yang pertama Venezia dan kemudian Palermo, Zamparini telah mengontrak 43 pelatih yang beberapa diantaranya dipecat lebih dari sekali.
Dia mungkin bisa membawa Palermo ke Serie A dengan gonta ganti pelatih namun ketiadaan stabilitas membuat mereka harus berjuang lebih keras di musim ini.
Kontrak enam tahun seperti dianugerahkan MU kepada Moyes, tak akan ada di Italia di mana Massimiliano Allegri hanya diberi waktu dua tahun ketika dia disewa AC Milan.
Bahkan setelah menjuarai Serie A pada musim pertamanya, Allegri hanya diperpanjang dua tahun.
Mayoritas kontrak kepelatihan di Italia, yang biasanya terjadi ketika musim berjalan karena seorang pelatih dipecat, hanya berlaku sampai akhir musim berjalan atau satu musim berikutnya.
Para presiden klub tahu mereka akan memecat pelatihnya dan mereka ingin membatasi pembayaran pascapemecatan.

ONE crucial element in the Red Devils´ recent success could not fail to be noticed: stability.
Having given their previous manager more than 26 years at the Old Trafford helm to rebuild and revamp a faltering side before turning them first into title winners and then establishing a legacy of achievement, United´s directors handed Moyes a six-year contract.
While that may not match the hasty eight-year deal Newcastle offered Alan Pardew following their surprise fifth-placed finish last season, it is still a hefty contract in the modern age.
Yet it proves how important stability and continuity is considered at the Manchester United institution.
This is no knee-jerk reaction or stop-gap appointment in the post-Ferguson era. United have picked Moyes, and they plan to keep him.
Chelsea
Such an attitude contrasts sharply with the example displayed by other teams, such as Chelsea where Rafael Benitez was picked to replace Roberto Di Matteo in November, but only on an interim basis until the end of the season.
Benitez is the 10th Chelsea boss in billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich´s 10 years at the club.
United´s chiefs deserve a certain share of Ferguson´s remarkable success at the club for having stuck by the Scot through some of the more difficult periods, notably at the beginning of his tenure.
He took three-and-a-half years to win his first trophy, the FA Cup in 1990, and another three more years before delivering a league title.
His side finished 11th twice and 13th once in his first four seasons whilst just under a decade ago United went three seasons without the title as they appeared to have been surpassed by first Arsenal and then Chelsea.
That a three-year period without winning the Premier League should be so noteworthy just goes to show how much success Ferguson brought to United.

Numerous times during that period, Ferguson was written off or questioned by pundits before always proving his detractors wrong.
Such long-sightedness has stood United in good stead and the club does not look likely to change that approach any time soon.
Such vision is not shared by everyone, though.
Take Blackburn, for example, who fired Sam Allardyce in December 2010 when sitting 13th in the table -- a move described by Ferguson as "absolutely ridiculous".
Blackburn survived that season but were relegated a year later. Owners Venky´s have since fired three more managers and only narrowly escaped relegation to third-tier League One this season.
Italy Serie A
Things are even more drastic on the continent and Italy in particular.
While he remains the exception rather than the rule, Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has changed coaches four times this season alone as his team battles against relegation.
In 26 years as a club president with first Venezia and then Palermo he has gone through 43 different coaches, some of which were fired more than once.
He may have brought Palermo back up to Serie A after a 31-year hiatus but the lack of stability has certainly contributed to their struggles this season.
A six-year contract would be unheard of in Italy where Massimiliano Allegri was given only two years when hired by AC Milan.
Even after winning Serie A in his first season, that was only enough to earn a two-year extension when his contract was up.
The majority of Italian coaching contracts, which are usually signed through the course of a season following someone else´s unhappy sacking, run either until the end of the current campaign or the following one.
Presidents know they´re going to fire their coach and they want to limit the post-sacking pay-outs involved.
Napoli´s Walter Mazzari is by far the longest serving coach in Serie A having held his job since October 2009 -- less than four years in charge.
Barring a sudden downturn in fortunes for the club, Moyes can expect to be still sitting comfortably in his Carrington office in four years´ time without a hint of his position being called into question.
