TWO goals apiece from Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck guided Manchester United to their first Premier League victory of the David Moyes era, as they ran out 4-1 winners at Swansea.
Wilfried Bony’s second-half strike was the only blight on Moyes’ evening, with his side going straight to the top of the table.
But it was the hosts who first had the ball in the back of the net, as Michu lashed the ball home from close range, only to see the flag raised against Nathan Dyer.
The visitors nearly capitalised on the let-off immediately through Van Persie, but the Dutchman dragged his effort wide before David De Gea was called upon to pull off a fine save from Swans new-boy Jonjo Shelvy.
Van Persie broke the deadlock as he latched on to Giggs’ lofted pass to impressively hook the ball home, before Danny Welbeck slotted home a simple tap-in following Antonio Valencia’s driven cross.
There were half-chances for both sides early in the second-half, without either goalkeeper really being put to the test.
Wayne Rooney, subject of strong summer speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea, was introduced to the action 15 minutes into the half, with Giggs making way.
But it was Van Persie who added to the scoreline in the 72nd-minute, after he picked up the ball midway into the Swans’ half, before dancing past two defenders to fire into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Swansea debutant Wilfried Bony hit a well-worked consolation strike for the hosts with eight minutes remaining.
