JOSE Mourinho insists referee Andre Marriner was right to award Chelsea an added time penalty to snatch a point against West Brom.
The Baggies looked to have become the first side to win at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League with Mourinho at the helm, but when Steven Reid and Ramires collided deep into stoppage time, Marriner pointed to the stop, much to the disgust of the visitors.
But despite West Brom’s lengthy protests, Eden Hazard remained calm to slot the ball home a seal a 2-2 draw and Mourinho insisted Marriner made the right call.
‘It was a penalty. I have watched it two or three times and it was a clear penalty in the same way it should have been a clear free-kick against West Brom when they scored the second goal,’ he said.
‘So I have reason to be very upset with the referee’s work. I believe he is a great referee, one of the best in European football, but he had a very unhappy game today."
