Dhaka (B2B) - Jumlah korban jiwa akibat gedung ambruk pada Rabu di Bangladesh menjadi 147 jiwa sedangkan 2.000 lainnya luka.luka, menurut keterangan resmi kepolisian setempat, Kamis pagi (25/4).
Peristiwa ambruknya gedung Rana Plaza, yang dilaporkan sebagai peristiwa terburuk dari ambruknya gedung di Bangladesh, pejabat setempat menyatakan ratusan orang yang terluka telah dilarikan ke rumah sakit untuk menjalani perawatan.
"Jumlah korban jiwa akibat ambruknya gedung tersebut telah naik jadi 147," kata petinggi kepolisian Wali Ashraf kepada kantor berita Xinhua, Kamis pagi.
Petugas pemadam kebakaran dan prajurit militer bekerja sepanjang hari untuk menolong warga yang masih terjebak dalam reruntuhan gedung.
Direktur Pemadam Kebakaran Mahbubur Rahman mengatakan sejauh ini ada 1.600 orang yang telah ditolong setelah gedung bertingkat delapan di pinggiran kota Dhaka, ibukota Bangladesh ambruk pada Rabu pagi. Sebagian warga yang berhasil ditolong dalam keadaan luka dan telah dilarikan ke rumah sakit.
Dokter setempat, Rabu malam, mengatakan jumlah korban akan meningkat karena banyak korban kondisinya kritis.
Pejabat mengatakan, operasi penyelamatan di gedung yang ditempati empat pabrik pakaian jadi, kantor bank dan ratusan toko terus berlangsung tanpa istirahat sejak Rabu pagi.
Namun dia tidak dapat menyebutkan berapa jumlah warga yang masih terjebak di reruntuhan gedung dan tim penyelamat khawatir jumlah korban tewas akan terus bertambah.
Pemerintah meminta ditutupnya gedung tersebut sehari sebelum peristiwa setelah bangunan itu mengalami retak-retak , tapi pemilik pabrik dilaporkan membangkang perintah tersebut.

In the collapse of the building Rana Plaza, which is reported to be one of the worst building collapses ever in Bangladesh, officials say hundreds of people with severe injuries have been rushed to the hospitals for treatment.
"The death toll from the building collapse has climbed to 147," Wali Ashraf, a police official at a control room set up to provide information about the disaster fatalities, told Xinhua Thursday morning.
Fire servicemen and army personnel worked frantically through the whole night to rescue people who are still believed to be trapped inside.
Fire Services Director Mahbubur Rahman said 1,600 people have so far been rescued after the eight-storey building in Savar on the outskirts of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka collapsed on Wednesday morning. Most of the rescued people sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospitals, he said.
Doctors Wednesday night said the death toll could rise as some of those injured are in critical condition.
Officials say rescue operation in the building which contained four garment factories, a bank´s branch and hundreds of shops has been continuing without any break since Wednesday morning.
But they say it´s not still clear how many people remain trapped in the wreckage and rescuers fear the death toll may rise significantly.
The authorities asked to close the building after it developed cracks Tuesday, but the factory owners reportedly defied the restriction.
