Early reports state that up to eight police horses were on the Deepdale pitch, with one steward knocked over then trampled by a horse. Television images showed that the steward was unharmed.
A Preston spokesman said: ‘A steward was injured by a police horse. He suffered damage to his shoulder, and has gone for an X-ray.’
This was the first meeting between Preston North End and Blackpool for over four years, and it showed. If ever a game was too competitive for its own good, here we had one.
