LIONEL Messi telah menyetujui kontrak baru di Barcelona, dan superstar asal Argentina ini menjadi pemain bergaji tertinggi di dunia sebesar 16.3 juta poundsterling (Rp293,4 miliar) per tahun.
Ayah Messi, Jorge berunding dengan para petinggi klub, Javier Faus dan Antoni Rossich pekan lalu, dan ditutup dengan kontrak baru ketujuh dalam 11 tahun ke depan bagi pemenang Ballon d'Or keempat kalinya, seperti dilansir Mail Online.
Messi akan berusia 27 pada Juni mendatang dan kontrak baru diharapkan dapat diperperpanjang hingga 2018.
Gaji Messi sesuai kontrak baru akan melampaui gaji striker Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo, yang memperoleh 15 juta poundsterling (Rp270 miliar) di luar bonus.
Wayne Rooney, pemain dengan bayaran tertinggi di Inggris, meraih 15,5 juta poundsterling (Rp279 miliar) per tahun.
Kontrak baru Messi menyatakan gaji per bulan di luar bonus, dan ditinjau ulang setiap tahun sesuai kontrak plus bonus dari musim sebelumnya.
Akibatnya Messi akan mendapat 16,2 juta poundsterling musim depan tetapi jika ia memenangkan Liga Champions, tersedia bonus yang akan ditambahkan dan jumlah totalnya akan menjadi gaji tetap di musim berikutnya.
Kendati begitu, Manchester City dan Paris Saint-Germain terus berupaya membeli Messi dengan transfer 250 juta poundsterling (Rp4,5 triliun) di tengah ketatnya aturan Financial Fair Play yang bakal diabaikan kedua klub kaya tersebut.

The player’s father Jorge met club officials Javier Faus and Antoni Rossich last week and closed what is the seventh new deal in 11 years for the four-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Messi will be 27 in June and the new deal is not expected to extend his existing contract length taking him to 2018.
But his earnings have been boosted to put him ahead of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who earns £15m before bonuses.
Wayne Rooney, the highest-paid player in England, is on £15.6m a year (£300,000 a week).
Messi’s previous deals have been structured so that basic pay before bonuses is re-set each year of the deal according to bonuses earned the previous season.
In effect Messi will earn £16.3m next season but if he wins the Champions League the appropriate bonus will be added and the sum total will become his new basic pay level the following season.
Messi’s £250m buy-out clause will remain the same leaving the door open for Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain to make a bid, though the rigours of Financial Fair Play surely rule out such a move for either club.
