Jakarta (B2B) - PT Bank Mandiri intends to deal with bank credit to the agricultural sector began in June 2013, with a target plasma farmers. The cumulative number of debtors, valued at Rp11, 2 trillion.

Previously reported, Bank Indonesia (BI) is trying to encourage banks to give loans to the agricultural sector amid rising inflation driven by food prices. BI will provide an incentive for banks to lend agriculture and facilitate farmers to get credit.

Commercial Director of Bank Mandiri, Sunarso said his bank has a strong desire to work on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in agriculture.

"If Bank Indonesia will provide incentives to encourage agricultural credit, just that good. Infrastructure but to think about what is necessary and regulatory basis with the farmers," said Sunarso, in the CFO Forum Mandiri, Jakarta, Monday (22/4).

According Sunarso, the government should look at the national food situation and identify the problem. In the food sector, the problem can be derived from the production, distribution or industry.

"If production is problematic, we will give credit to certain incentives to the food production sector," said Sunarso.

Admittedly, it is technically food sector has abundant production when the harvest season. After harvest, food moved from farmers to traders or warehouse that is not owned by farmers. When harvest time runs out, the number will be reduced nationally.
