Mantan bintang tim nasional Inggris, Ferdinand, 34, terkena lemparan koin, setelah tendangan bebas Robin van Persie membuat United unggul 3-2.
Dia bilang, Wayne Rooney menjadi sasaran pelemparan koin ketika mengambil tendangan sudut.
COPS were last night hunting a soccer yob who hurled a 2p coin at Man United ace Rio Ferdinand — almost BLINDING him.
It was thrown from the crowd in the final seconds of the derby match at Manchester City, and left the defender with blood gushing from a wound just above his left eye.
Then, as Ferdinand was treated by the touchline at the Etihad Stadium, a Blues fan ran on to the pitch and tried to attack him again.
City goalkeeper Joe Hart stepped in to stop the yob, who was led away by stewards and arrested.
Ex-England star Ferdinand, 34, made light of the coin incident, which came after Robin van Persie scored United’s 3-2 winner.
He tweeted: “Whoever threw that coin, what a shot! Can’t believe it was a copper 2p... could have at least been a £1 coin!”
He said Wayne Rooney was also pelted with coins as he took a corner.
