Bogor (B2B) - The government ensured that the supply of food stocks is safe approaching the upcoming Ramadan until Eid and said that the rise of their prices is still considered acceptable.

"The average rise of several commodities such as egg, chili is in the range of Rp1,000 – Rp2,000," said the Minister of Agriculture Suswono, during the inspection to Bogor Market yesterday, July 5.

Regarding the rising price of chicken recently that reached Rp40,000 per kilogram, Suswono said it was caused by the traders who intentionally raised the price due to the high demand, adding that the supply from the breeders are actually sufficient.

Suswono further said the Ministry had coordinated with heads of the regions to keep the stability of those basic commodities in the hope that there will be no panic in the society, which in turn can lead to people purchasing commodities in big numbers and ends up in the scarcity of those commodities.

Especially for rice, 2.3 tons of rice has been reserved to meet the demands during Ramadan and Ied Day. "The supply of rice is more than enough for the people," Suswono said.

Several traders at Bogor Market said the rise of subsidized fuel price had been pushing the price of commodities in the markets in the past few weeks. The price of chili, for example, has risen from Rp28,000 to Rp30,000 per kilogram, while the price of cooking oil and rice are still at normal level.
