Jakarta (B2B) - horticulture production predict to decrease of about 20% in the past month due to unpredictable weather, resulting in failed harvests in a number of production centers. Another factor is the increased demand ahead of Ramadan, and restrictions on imports of horticultural products thus driving up prices.

Chairman of the Association of Merchants and Manufacturers Horticulture Indonesia (APPHI) Dwi Putra Setiawan said, declining production decrease the supply of horticultural products in the market.

"The surge in the price of the most prominent potatoes. Prices almost all horticultural products began to rise due to the declining market supply," said Dwi Putra Setiawan.

He expects the government to take immediate steps to anticipate the rise in prices of horticultural products not soar like jengkol. Government as regulator is expect to regulate the marketing of post-harvest extension followed step, because most farmers still do it conventionally.

"The increase in the price of even the farmers do not like, who enjoy not their, but the middlemen and traders," said Dwi Putra.

"Farmer wants a reasonable price is high but so are motivate to continue growing, but if no reasonable buyer slumped and farmers lose money," he said again.
