Jakarta (B2B) - The ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has unveiled an opportunity for the Democrat Party to get into the government, noted PDIP spokesman Ahmad Basarah.
"The opportunity remains open for Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonos Democrat Party to cooperate with the government in several areas in the future," Basarah remarked in a text message on Tuesday.
He stated that the Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla needs the support of political parties, including the Democrat Party, in order to ensure stability.
According to Basarah, the government needs constructive political support in terms of relations between the government and Parliament. "Although the Democrat Party is not included in the cabinet, it does not mean that political cooperation with the government will be stopped."
He stated that the space devoted to the nation and state is still vast and requires cooperation among political forces.
Basarah noted that the PDIP positively welcomed the initiative of Democrat Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to meet President Jokowi to explore political cooperation between the party and the government.
"The meeting is expected to serve as an entry point for a more comprehensive political cooperation between the Democrat and the government, outside the agreement on the support for the government regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) on direct regional elections," he added.
