Djabar divonis 15 tahun penjara.

Jakarta (B2B) - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) said that the penalties against corruptors are still too light. Based on ICW´s observation, over the last three years there have been 756 people convicted of corruption. Most of them, he said, only received light sentences of two five years in prison.

Researchers Legal Division ICW Tama Satrya Langkun said the sentences are far too light given the fact that the state had lost Rp6.4 trillion from corruption in the last three years.

"The light sentencing would have no deterrent effect. Another thing that highlighted was the fact that these corruption convicts easily get remission. How would there be a deterrent effect if the punishment is often discounted?" he said.

Of 756 convicted corruptors, Tama said, only five have been given hefty sentences of more than five years. One of them is Zulkarnaen Djabar, who was proven guilty of corruption in the Quran and laboratory procurement at the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Djabar was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
