Kupang of East Nusa Tenggara [B2B] - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) requested that the Dendeng River Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) be immediately connected to all target beneficiary families. The President revealed that out of around 15 thousand potential connections, currently the Kali Dendeng SPAM has only been connected to around three thousand households.

“Today we will open the Dendeng River SPAM (Drinking Water Supply System) in Kupang City. This will be used for 15 thousand household connections, but only approximately three thousand household connections have been used. "This means that there is still a very large amount remaining," said the President when inaugurating the Kali Dendeng SPAM, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Wednesday (06/12/2023).

The President also instructed the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) to assist regional governments to improve these connections.

"I ask the Minister of Public Works to immediately complete the connection to this household from the central government. This should be the regional responsibility, the city's responsibility, the provincial responsibility and the PDAM's responsibility, but for NTT we will get help from the central government. "For Kupang, we will provide assistance from the central government," he said.

The Kali Dendeng SPAM was built in 2020 with a budget allocation of IDR 173 billion. The President hopes that this infrastructure can guarantee water supply for households in NTT, especially during the dry season.

"This will provide certainty that for water matters, especially drinking water in Kupang City and its surroundings, can be supplied from the Dendeng River SPAM," said the President.

Meanwhile, to guarantee water supply for agricultural land, the President said, the government has also built and is currently building a number of reservoirs in NTT.

"There are seven reservoirs that have been completed and will be completed in 2024. "This will also have a tremendous effect on production and productivity of rice fields in NTT," he said.
