Jakarta (B2B) - Indonesians tend to shop in traditional market more than modern one. Because of that, Jakarta Provincial Government is going to build flats equipped with traditional markets.
“Traditional market is like cadgers, the rent will be count per day. The object target of the shoppers is the residents who stay in the flat. So, it’s going to resemble the SCBD or Central Park superblock. Besides people coming to shop round a clock, the flat residents upstairs would definitely go downstairs to shop in the traditional market,” stated Vice Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama, Monday (3/17).
According to Basuki, people have not completely forgotten about the existence of traditional market even though modern markets are mushrooming everywhere.
“Honestly, we still shop in traditional market. If we facilitate this market, people will shop in there,” he said.
Basuki even admitted he has surveyed that Asians love shopping in traditional markets more than in modern markets.
“Just try it (survey). How many times a month our people go to supermarket? About twice. How many times people go to traditional market? It could reach 28 times a month. It means that traditional market has potentials. It’s just how we manage it,” he uttered.
However, Basuki also admitted that realizing flat equipped with traditional market cannot be realized in short period.
“The governor has that kind of concept, but people are impatient. It’s not easy to build a market and move it to the targeted location. We’re just working for a year more. But, everything is in the right track. The road has been constructed as well,” he finished.
