Jakarta (B2B) - Jusuf Kalla, former Indonesia vice president is the perfect vice presidential candidate for Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who is running for president in the presidential election held next July 9.
"Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla are coming from different generation, but both can complement each other if they run the government. They can form a strong, fast, firm and responsive government," political analyst from Pelita Harapan University Embrus Sihombing said here on Sunday.
He said, when solving conflict, both Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla always conducted persuasive approach. Such attitude can help reduce disintegration threat in Indonesia. "Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla could unite Indonesia especially people living in Java island and those living outside Java," Embrus added.
According to Embrus, Jokowi who is relatively young at age has little experience in leadership if compared to Jusuf Kalla who was a senior politician from Golkar party and was once vice president of Indonesia in the period of 2004-2009. Embrus also said Jusuf Kallas experience in international relations can also help Jokowi when dealing with foreign partners of Indonesia.
Although the official results of the legislative elections will be announced by the General Elections Commission (KPU) on May 7 and 9, quick vote counts by various survey institutions had shown that none of the political parties had secured 25 percent of the votes.
By law, a political party was required to win at least 25 percent of the total votes or a minimum of 20 percent of the 560 seats contested in the House of Representatives (DPR) before it can nominate its presidential candidate for the presidential election, which was scheduled to be held on July 9, 2014.
Current Jakartas Governor Jokowi is running for presidential candidate under the full support of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). PDIP has formally set up a coalition with the National Democrat Party (Nasdem) for the presidential election, while National Awakening Party (PKB) is likely to join it soon.
Although PDIP has set coalition with several parties, it has not yet announced who will be the vice presidential candidate for the coalition.
