"Tentu kami sampaikan kekecewaan.
Jakarta (B2B) - CEO of MNC Group Hary Tanoesoedibjo expressed his disappointment over the government`s decision to centralise all activities of the Miss World 2013 beauty pageant in Bali, following protests from Islamic organisations.
"We are disappointed. Pressures can change decisions," said the organiser of the international event at a press conference on Monday.
He was forced to make quick changes to the preparations, which have been ongoing for the past three years. In fact, he had to make changes in three to four days.
As a result, all charitable activities that had been planned in Jakarta, a visit to Yogyakarta and a final round in Sentul, Bogor, West Java, had to be cancelled.
"This is the reason for my disappointment. They have a lot of activities to do. I pity them as they would be like common tourists; in fact, they may not even visit Jakarta," he said.
Moreover, he added that the contest had been arranged in accordance with national cultures and norms.
"We have a clear foundation in terms of the law and eastern cultures. It had all been adjusted. Therefore, I am very disappointed. However, it has happened; so, we must respect it (the decision) and follow it," he said.
Hary is worried that the decision to move all the activities of Miss World 2013 from Jakarta to Bali would have a negative impact on the country. He is concerned that this move will reduce foreign investors` interest in the country.
"I hope it will not create an insecure atmosphere and convey to the world that Indonesia cannot enforce the law. If the perception is cumulative, it may affect investments," he said.
