"The hand of the government is too short, could not reach up to remote area. If there is public awareness, it will minimize the potential for emergence of animal diseases. Participation I hope to monitor and prevent potential dangerous animal diseases," said Agriculture Minister Suswono after the opened of an international trade show in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday (5/6).

Steps to guard against animal disease is part of an effort to increase the production of farmers to achieve meat self-sufficiency target by 2014. Ministry of Agriculture, he said the would revitalize the whole slaughterhouses (RPH) in stages in order to accommodate the increase in livestock production.

"In developing the slaughterhouses, the government requires a large investment, but it can be realized through farmer groups so that it can accommodate the productivity of farmers in the area of development," said Suswono.
