Jakarta (B2B) - Indonesian Telecommunication Regulatory Body (BRTI) said the price of prepaid Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) starter packs should be raise from the current average of Rp 2,000.
It is suggested that starter packs pricing to reach between Rp50,000 (US$4.99) and Rp100,000 per unit, thus crimes committed via cellular phones and excessive card switching can be suppressed.
M Budi Setiawan, Director General of Resources, Post Equipment and Informatics at the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), who also serves as chairperson of BRTI, said regulator is discussing ideal price for SIM starter pack, which means the new price should not be within the range of Rp100,000 a card.
This new SIM starter pack pricing will be stipulated in the Ministry Regulation Draft on Registration of Telecommunication Service Subscribers.
