Jakarta (B2B) - Menteri Pekerjaan Umum Djoko Kirmanto meminta jajaran Kementerian Pekerjaan Umum melalui Balai Besar Pengembangan Sungai Brantas menyiapkan alat berat untuk mengantisipasi banjir lahar dingin yang diprediksi menimpa permukiman warga lantaran erupsi Gunung Kelud.
"Semua alat besar disiapkan, bahkan di tempat yang mungkin nanti dilewati. Kalau bisa, sekarang ditaruh bronjong supaya lahar dingin tidak menghantam permukiman warga," kata Djoko Kirmanto di Jakarta, Jumat (f14/2).
Djoko meminta alat berat tersebut standby di Kota Kediri, sebagai wilayah terparah yang tertutup abu.
"Menurut perkiraan BMKG (Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika), dalam dua-tiga hari ke depan akan ada hujan yang cukup besar. Itu yang berbahaya," ujarnya.
Air hujan yang membawa debu erupsi Kelud dari daerah atas juga membahayakan warga yang tinggal di daerah bawah.
Djoko mengatakan diperlukan alat berat untuk membersihkan debu erupsi gunung tersebut yang menutupi jalan-jalan di Kota Kediri.
"Pasti tak hanya dari PU, kami segerakan alat-alat berat dari tempat lain."

"Heavy equipment will be prepare to prevent cold lava from striking residential areas,"he said Djoko on Friday, February 14, 2014.
Kirmanto requested that the heavy equipment should be on standby in Kediri, which is the most ash-covered city.
"According to the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency), in the next two or three days, there will be heavy rain, which is dangerous," he said.
Rainwater carrying ashes from the upper atmosphere can also endanger people.
Djoko said that the heavy equipment will be used to clean up the dust that covers Kediri. The Ministry has prepared six bulldozers and several units of backhoes.
"We will also seek for other equipment from other places," Djoko added.
