Probolinggo (B2B) - Sedikitnya 18 orang tewas akibat kecelakaan maut di Tongas, Probolinggo, Jawa Timur, antara truk trailer dengan mobil pick-up pada Sabtu (28/12).
Petugas kamar mayat RSUD Tongas, Agus Sudarsono mengatakan pihaknya sudah mengevakuasi 15 korban yang tewas di lokasi kejadian dan tiga orang lainnya meninggal di rumah sakit.
"Korban meninggal dunia akibat kecelakaan tersebut sebanyak 18 orang yang sekarang ini berada di kamar mayat. Seluruh korban meninggal dunia juga sudah teridentifikasi oleh petugas rumah sakit dan aparat kepolisian," katanya.
Informasi dari berbagai sumber menyebutkan bahwa isi mobil penumang pick up berjumlah 32 orang.
Tentang penyebab kecelakaan, Kabid Humas Polda Jatim Kombes Pol Awi Setiyono mengatakan, polisi masih melakukan olah tempat kejadian perkara (TKP) untuk menyelidiki penyebab kecelakaan. Saat kejadian pukul 16.00 WIB dilaporkan 10 korban tewas, lalu pukul 18.30 WIB dilaporkan 16 korban tewas dan 16 korban luka, namun pukul 19.30 WIB berkembang lagi menjadi 18 korban tewas dan 14 orang terluka.
"Masih diselidiki, apakah human error, kondisi jalan yang tidak baik, kondisi penerangan jalan yang tidak ada, atau kendaraan yang tidak laik, termasuk akan diselidiki adanya angkutan barang yang digunakan mengangkut orang," katanya.
Sebelumnya, Kepala Satuan Lalu Lintas Kepolisian Resor Probolinggo Ajun Komisaris Polisi Muklason mengatakan pihaknya saat ini masih terus melakukan pendataan korban yang mengalami kecelakaan tersebut.

A morgue staff member at the Tongas general hospital, Agus Sudarsono, said 15 dead victims had been evacuated from the accident scene, while three others died while receiving emergency treatment in the hospital.
"The number of dead bodies from the incident in the morgue now totals 18," he said, adding that all victims have been identified.
According to sources, the cargo truck was carrying 32 people when the incident occurred.
Two of the 18 bodies belonged to children, he added.
East Java police command spokesman Senior Commissioner Awi Setiyono said, when asked for confirmation about the incident by Antara, "As of 6.30pm, 16 victims have been reported to have died and 16 others were injured. All of them have been taken to the hospital."
Regarding the cause of the accident, he said the police were still working to determine what occurred.
"The investigation is still underway. (We do not know yet) if it was caused by human error, poor road conditions, bad street lighting or poorly maintained roads. We are still investigating it, including why the cargo truck was being used to carry people," he said.
The head of the traffic police of the Probolinggo Resort Police Command, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Muklason said, "We are still investigating at the scene of the incident and collecting data about the victims. "
