Jakarta (B2B) - The monkeys that were raided by Jakarta Provincial Government will be release into the forest. This is because the Ragunan Zoo (TMR) did not want to take the risk by accepting the monkeys that used as topeng monyet (a kind of door-to-door monkey performance).

Jakarta Governor, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that he understand the rejection made by the manager of the Ragunan Zoo. If the monkeys were taken together, other animals would be infected and very dangerous.

"Monkeys are suffering from various diseases, such as hepatitis and tuberculosis," Jokowi said in Jakarta.

He continued, those monkeys will be treated first for healing. After they were recovered, they will be released back to the forest or natural habitat. "We`ll treat the monkeys first and then released to the forest," he told.

As known, medical examination has been done to the 83 monkeys in the office of Animal and Fish Health Center, Jl. Ragunan, South Jakarta. From the results of the examination, they were known having diseases, such as tuberculosis and hepatitis. Even most monkeys suffer from intestinal worms.

Initially, the monkeys will be housed in the Ragunan Zoo. But its manager refused it, considering the monkeys had a disease and endanger for other animals. These monkeys were raided in order to free the city from topeng monyet in 2014. Despite getting protest from some parties, Jokowi keeps conducting raids. The reason is topeng monyet is a form of exploitation of animals and have got the international spotlight.
