Menteri Kehutanan (Menhut) Zulkifli Hasan menagatakan pada kurun waktu 1998-2002 kawasan hutan yang mengalami kerusakan itu mencapai hingga 4 juta hektar. Dari luas kawasan hutan rusak saat itu, kini hanya tersisa sekitar 30.000 hektar.

Menurutnya, guna mempercepat proses tersebut pihaknya memiliki terobosan. Dia menginstruksikan kepada seluruh pemerintahan daerah agar memberikan alternatif penghasilan bagi masyarakat yang bermukim di daerah hutan.

"Harapannya, program itu dapat mempercepat proses konservasi hutan. Selain mendukung program pemerintah, warga bisa mendapatkan penghasilan," kata Zulkifli usai penanaman pohon di Pusat Pendidikan Infanteri (Pusdikif), Kecamatan Cipatat, Kabupaten Bandung, Kamis (3/1).

Salah satu caranya, kata dia, yakni mengajak warga masyarakat melakukan adopsi pohon atau memanam pohon jenis sayuran. Agar masyarakat terpacu melakukan itu, pihak pemerintah daerah bersangkutan diharapkan membeli komoditas hasil penanaman. Perkiraan penghasilan dari berladang itu hanya sekitar Rp500.000. Namun, dengan melakukan penanaman, penghasilan masyarakat wilayah hutan bisa meningkat dengan penghasilan antara Rp700.000 hingga Rp1 juta.

Apabila program pemberian alternatif penghasilan itu tidak dijalankan, Zulkifli menilai, sampai kapanpun upaya pelestarian kawan hutan tidak akan terealisasi.

"Bagaimanapun masyarakat wilayah hutan membutuhkan penghasilan. Dengan begitu, masyarakat menggunakan lahan hutan sebagai areal berladang," ucapnya.

Pelaksanaan program tersebut, ucap dia, telah sukses terlaksana di Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). Oleh karena itu, pihaknya menetapkan kawasan itu sebagai daerah percontohan.

Sementara itu, Komandan Pendidikan dan Pelatihan TNI AD Letjend TNI Gatot Numantyo mengatakan sejauh ini pihaknya telah menanam 115.250 pohon. Dari jumlah itu terdiri dari berbagai macam pohon yang ditanam yaitu Sengon, Jati Putih, Trembesi, serta beberapa jenih pohon buah.

"Hari ini merupakan puncak acara, lantaran kami telah melakukan penanaman sejak 2 Desember 2012. Kegiatan tersebut melibatkan 2.500 personel, jumlah gabungan TNI dan masyarakat," ucapnya.
