President Yudhoyono Urges Police to Enforce the Law in the Case of FPI

Jakarta (B2B) - Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono meminta Polri untuk menindak semua kelompok yang telah melanggar hukum dengan tindak kekerasan, pengrusakan, dan main hakim sendiri, terutama Front Pembela Islam (FPI).
Pernyataan tersebut dibuat sebagai respon terhadap banyak perdebatan di media sosial akibat bentrokan yang terjadi baru-baru ini antara anggota FPI dan warga Sukorejo, Kendal.
"Posisi negara sangat jelas - posisi saya sangat jelas, tidak mentolerir mereka yang melakukan vandalisme, kekerasan, main hakim sendiri dan melanggar aturan hukum di negeri ini," kata Yudhoyono di Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran, Minggu (21/7).
Presiden mengatakan polisi menggunakan pendekatan yang sangat persuasif dalam mengendalikan dan menangani dinamika masyarakat. Namun, jika aturan hukum dilanggar, polisi wajib untuk untuk bertindak tegas.
Mengenai bentrokan di Kendal, Presiden meminta masyarakat tetap tenang dan menahan diri. Warga diminta untuk mematuhi hukum dan memberi kesempatan petugas keamanan untuk menangani kasus tersebut.
"Hukum harus ditegakkan untuk mencegah konflik atau bentrokan dan setiap elemen, termasuk FPI, harus dicegah dari melakukan kekerasan dan perusakan," kata Presiden.
Bentrokan terjadi ketika sekelompok anggota FPI dari Temanggung, Magelang dan Yogyakarta melakukan konvoi untuk menutup tempat-tempat hiburan di Kendal. Salah satu mobil FPI menabrak sepeda motor, yang mengakibatkan satu orang tewas.
Kejadian tersebut membuat warga marah yang kemudian mengejar anggota FPI sampai mereka terpojok di Masjid Agung Sukorejo. Para anggota FPI diselamatkan dan dievakuasi oleh polisi dan personil militer untuk mengamankan yang datang ke kejadian tersebut.

His statement was made as a response to the many debate in social media over the recent clash between FPI members and residents of Sukorejo, Kendal.
"The position of the state is very clear--my position is very clear; do not tolerate those who commit vandalism, violence, vigilante and breaking the rules enforced in this country," said Yudhoyono at the Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran, Sunday, July 21.
The President said the police use a very persuasive approach in controlling and handling the dynamics of the community. However, if the law is broken, the police are required to act firmly.
Regarding the clash in Kendal, the president asked the public to remain calm and restrain themselves. The people are asked to comply with the law and let the security forces handle the case.
"The law must be upheld to prevent conflicts or clashes, and any element, FPI included, must be prevented from committing violence and destruction," the president said.
The clash happened when a group of FPI members from Temanggung, Magelang and Yogyakarta were convoying to raid Kendal´s entertainment venues. One of the cars hit a motorbike, causing the death of one man.
This incident angered residents who then pursued the FPI party until they were cornered in the Sukorejo Grand Mosque. The FPI members were rescued and evacuated by the police and military personnel who came to secure the incident.
