Jakarta (B2B) - Bank Indonesia bersama pemerintah akan menjalankan redenominasi atau penyederhanaan nilai mata uang rupiah. Namun langkah tersebut tidaklah mudah lantaran masyarakat Indonesia belum memahami konsep redenominasi dan dianggap sebagai kebijakan sanering (pemotongan mata uang).
"Banyak yang mengira redenominasi sama dengan sanering yang pernah dilakukan pemerintahan Soekarno pada dekade 1950 saat inflasi melambung," kata pengamat uang Farial Anwar ketika dihubungi di Jakarta, Sabtu (8/12).
Menurutnya, nanti akan ada mata uang Rp100 baru sebagai pengganti nilai Rp100 ribu, Rp50 baru (pengganti Rp50 ribu), Rp20 (pengganti Rp20 ribu), Rp10 (pengganti Rp10 ribu), Rp5 (pengganti Rp5 ribu) dan Rp2 (pengganti Rp2) dan uang logam Rp1 untuk Rp1.000.
"Kemudian akan ada pula mata uang sen seperti dulu. Rp 50 sen untuk menggantikan Rp 500, Rp 20 sen untuk Rp 200, Rp 10 sen untuk Rp 100, dan Rp 1 sen untuk Rp 10," ungkap Farial.
"Harus diberi penjelasan bahwa ini bukan sanering karena bukan pemotongan nilai tapi penyederhanaan. Banyak orang kaya khawatir kalau sanering karena harta mereka akan berkurang. Kalau redenominasi kan nilainya tidak berkurang, hanya dibuat lebih sederhana."

“Many people assume that redenomination is similar to currency reform once implemented in the era of Soekarno in 1950s when inflation soared high,” says financial observer, Farial Anwar in Jakarta on Saturday (8/12).
He argues that there will be new currency, for example Rp 100 is equal to Rp 100 thousand, Rp 50 to Rp 50 thousand, Rp 20 for Rp 20 thousand, Rp 10 for Rp 10 thousand, Rp 5 for Rp 5 thousand, Rp 2 for Rp 2,000 and coin for Rp 1 (Rp 1,000).
“There will be cents such as Rp 50 cents for Rp 500, Rp 20 cents for Rp 200, Rp 10 cent for Rp 100, and Rp 1 cent for Rp 10,” he says.
“This must be explained that it is not a currency reform, but only currency simplification. Most people are worried that their money will decrease in value. Redenomination does not decrease the value, it is only simplifying the currency."
